Compact crossovers are taking over the automotive market today, and the Nissan Rogue 2021 promises to “regain the lost” in recent years compared to popular models like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. That’s why there is a comparison, whether Rogue 2021 is able to “fight” with the two names mentioned above.
The Nissan Rogue / X-Trail 2021 is slightly better in size than the two rivals
The Nissan Rogue 2021 is slightly smaller than its predecessor but still bigger than both the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V. Specifically, the wheelbase and overall length of the Rogue 2021 are marginally better, but the width is a bit narrower than the two rivals.
The new Rogue has sacrificed cargo space, now has a standard trunk capacity of 1,047 liters (when the rear seats are still in use), less than the CR-V and RAV4. In the old version, when the Rogue 2020 had a luggage compartment with RAV4 and CR-V, it could hold 10 suitcases.
Rogue 2021 has only one engine option, which is a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine that produces 181 horsepower and 245Nm of torque. The engine has the same specifications as the base engine of the RAV4, also a 4-cylinder in line, but the crossover of Toyota is 22 horsepower and 4Nm more than the Nissan Rogue. Meanwhile, Honda CR-V comes standard with a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine in line for 190 horsepower and maximum torque of 243Nm.
The Toyota RAV4 uses an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the Rogue and CR-V both come with a continuously variable automatic transmission. The common point of all three Japanese crossovers is the standard front-wheel drive system and all-wheel drive option.
However, the Nissan Rogue 2021 is somewhat inferior to the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V when it is not offered a fuel-efficient hybrid. In fact, between 2017 and 2019, Nissan introduced a Rogue hybrid, but the car was discontinued later.
Estimated combined fuel consumption of Nissan Rogue 2021 ranges from 7.84 – 8.4 liters / 100km, quite similar to RAV4 at 7.84 – 8.71 liters / 100km. In CR-V, the numbers are 7.84 – 8.11 liters / 100km.
In the hybrid version, RAV4 and CR-V are much better when combined fuel consumption is 5.88 liters / 100km and 6.19 liters / 100km, respectively.
Price and features
Nissan has not yet announced the price of the Rogue 2021, but perhaps this small crossover will cost close to the starting price of Honda CR-V ($ 26,170 ~ 606 million) and Toyota RAV4 ($ 27,070 ~ 627 million). On the other hand, the base S version of the Rogue 2021 seems to be better equipped than the base versions of the RAV4 and CR-V, namely, Nissan’s car comes standard with quite a lot of features that are optional on The other two rivals, for example, 17-inch wheels, smartphone connectivity and LED headlights.
Overall, the Nissan Rogue 2021 is a “one nine, one ten” rival to both the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V . Hopefully, with the latest upgrade, Rogue will have better sales in the future.
